About this place
At Marutaya, some diners have ordered a hot pot for one, adding yellow noodles as a topping. There is no need to gather around a large pot: you can enjoy one at your own pace. The menu includes yosenabe, kimchi hot pot and yellow noodles. You might make the hot pot the centrepiece of your meal, or start with a dish and a drink, then add noodles to finish. Deciding how to put it together is part of the appeal.
Beyond hot pots, there is oden with daikon, beef tendon and chikuwa, as well as sashimi such as tuna, sea bream, salmon and amberjack. The range suits a meal focused on sashimi, or an evening spent picking at tamagoyaki and small plates. One diner described having yudofu as a snack after shochu with hot water, and also enjoying hirezake. Pair hot pot, sashimi and small dishes, then choose drinks to suit the pace of the meal: it is an easygoing izakaya approach.
For fried food and skewers, the menu also lists fried chicken wings and kushikatsu. Diners have mentioned ordering beni shoga, fried chicken and shishamo, too, so it may be worth sampling a few items beyond the hot pots. Marutaya opens in the evening at 16:30. There are dishes to choose from whether you are having dinner alone or sharing a hot pot and other plates with a group.
